Chapter 9-1: Coincidences
After Sheng Jia Yu
and Sheng Jia Lan had left, the leaves shook, and a man, like a carp, jumped up
from the bushes. "Luo biaomei is really scary," Sheng San Lang, who
had overheard the conversation between Luo Sheng and Hongdou, wiped his face,
feeling scared for a while.
He was in a bad
mood, so he had drunk a pot of wine early in the morning and fallen into a daze
in the bush. Afterward, he heard a faint sound coming from the lake. Initially,
he had wanted to greet them out of courtesy. Sheng San Lang shook his head with
a jolt, brushed off the flowers and leaves on his body, and left quickly.
After Luo Sheng had
returned to her room, Hongdou asked with some doubt, "Miss, can we really
lure the snake out of its hole by saying that?" Luo Sheng looked at the
trees outside the window with a calm expression and replied, "We should at
least have tried."
She couldn't
guarantee that others would act according to her intentions. Still, since the
enemy was a poisonous snake that had already bitten people, they would likely
strike again when given an opportunity.
Hongdou tilted her
head to look at Luo Sheng, appearing very puzzled. "Why do we need to get
involved in something troublesome like this? You didn't behave this way before,
Miss." Luo Sheng shifted her gaze back to Hongdou, curved her lips, and
smiled. "Oh, how was I like before?"
Being born
beautiful, her smile should have been captivating and charming. However, her
eyes held a depth at this moment, like water veiled in mist. Her smile didn't
reach her eyes, giving off a cold aura.
Hongdou couldn't
help but feel distressed when she looked at her Miss. Hongdou couldn't help but
feel distressed as she observed her Miss. She reminisced about how carefree her
Miss used to be, but after experiencing a near-death encounter and drinking the
Mengpo soup, her Miss now had to be
more cautious.
Deciding to
encourage her Miss, Hongdou swung her hand and said, "If it were before,
Miss, you wouldn't even bat an eye. If you thought Sheng Er Guniang was bad,
you would simply strip her naked, beat her, and throw her on the street."
Luo Sheng's eyes
flickered. "Did I really behave like that before?" "More or
less," Hongdou vaguely replied. "Be more specific." Hongdou bit
her lip, "This maid is afraid of making Miss angry by mentioning it. It
happened some time ago when a little hoof (maid) in the house flirted with Si
Gongzi—" Hongdou began explaining, but Luo Sheng interrupted her.
"Who is this Si Gongzi?" Hong Dou held her forehead and said
distressedly, "Miss, you even forgot Si Gongzi? Si Gongzi is the young man[1]
you snatched back when you strolled the street."
Upon hearing this,
even someone as composed as Luo Sheng had a distorted expression. This Miss Luo
even has a male companion[2]?
Hearing about Miss Luo's past, why does she feel that the princess title she
once held is not used to its best?
"Forget it.
Let's not talk about this. Let's see if the two little maids have returned with
any news," Luo Sheng said, feeling the need to compose herself.
Hongdou placed a
plate of candied fruits before Luo Sheng and smiled. "Miss, you'll feel
better if you have some candied fruit. I'll go check on them," the young
maid said, turning and leaving Luo Sheng in a daze. Luo Sheng picked up a piece
of candied fruit and stared at it.
The sweet and sour
plum wasn't particularly appetizing to Luo Sheng. Her thoughts drifted further
as she gazed at the plum in her hand. She used to carve green plums into flower
shapes and make candied fruits from them to make her mother happy.
Now trapped in
Jinsha County as Miss Luo, she doesn't know the fate of her parents and
relatives. After cautioning Hongdou, Luo Sheng refrained from mentioning Zhen
Nan Wang Palace freely to others.
From Hongdou's lack
of knowledge about Zhen Nan Wang Palace and the sight of soldiers surrounding
the palace that night, she already had guesses about the fate of her family.
But in the end, she was not resigned. She still has to go and take a look!
A chill ran through Luo Sheng, causing the plum in her hand to slip back into the dish.
