Chapter 6.2: To Lower One's Guard
Luo Sheng didn't even spare a glance at Sheng Jia Yu and
explained earnestly, "I mean, I have never wanted to commit suicide."
She glanced at Sheng Jia Lan from the corner of her eye
while she spoke and noticed that Sheng Jia Lan's face had turned pale, and the
corners of her lips had tightened, losing the calm she had just now.
Sheng Laotaitai's face grew solemn. She stared at Luo Sheng
and asked in a deep voice, "Sheng'er, what do you mean by that?"
Considering her granddaughter's words just now, could it be that someone was harming her?
Luo Chen's expression also changed.
It was one thing if
Luo Sheng had attempted suicide, but it was a whole different story if someone
had tried to harm her. "Miss Luo, some words are not to be spoken
casually." Sheng Dataitai persuaded while trying to calm her rapidly
pounding heart. The corners of Luo Sheng's lips curved.
She has bright eyes and snow-white skin but no smile on her
face. Cold and serene as a jade figure, this inexplicable indifference
heightened people's curiosity about what she would say next. Luo Sheng said,
"I've never thought of committing suicide, yet that incident still
happened. "Now that I think about it, maybe my sleepwalking illness had
relapsed, and I did such a silly thing unconsciously."
"Sleepwalking?" Everyone was taken aback. Luo
Sheng nodded slightly: "I didn't want to bring up this hidden illness at
first, but what happened three days ago worried everyone, so I'd like to
clarify today." With Luo Sheng's explanation, the frozen air instantly
warmed up. Sheng Laotaitai let out a relieved sigh and asked worriedly,
"Is this illness serious?" Has your father invited a doctor for
you?"
"He has. I used to have frequent relapses when I was
younger, but it hasn't occurred as I grew older. Maybe it happened this time
because I'm not accustomed to the new environment." Luo Sheng explained. "In
that case, I will arrange for a doctor to visit you tomorrow," Sheng
Laotaitai suggested, worriedly.
Luo Sheng shook her head and declined, saying, "No
need, Hongdou is accustomed to brewing the medicine for me. I still remember
the prescription." Sheng Laotaitai wanted to persuade her again, but Luo
Sheng firmly stated, "I don't want more people to know about my hidden
illness."
Only then did Sheng Laotaitai give up. Luo Sheng glanced out
of the corner of her eye and noticed that Sheng Jia Lan's face had gotten back
to normal. She smiled slightly and took a sip of tea.
The family banquet had come to an end, and the crescent moon
hung in the sky, adorned with a delicate frost. Luo Sheng didn't ask Hongdou to
carry the lantern and walked calmly on the paved road. Luo Chen quickly caught
up and stood in her path. Under the moonlight, the young boy's eyes appeared
deep as he inquired, "Do you really have a habit of sleepwalking?"
Luo Sheng nodded.
"Then why would you dream of hanging yourself?" Luo
Sheng was caught off guard by how direct the boy's question was, so she took a
moment to ponder before answering, "Perhaps because I would never dare to
attempt it while awake. "Unreasonable!" Hearing this answer, the boy
turned pale with anger and stormed away.
Luo Sheng stood by the roadside and watched the thin young
boy walk away without any ripples in her heart. She will leave this place soon
and has no energy to form close connections with anyone. Lush flowers and trees
are on the side of the road, casting shadows on the young girl's clothes.
Suddenly, a few men's voices could be heard in the distance.
