Chapter 44-2: Reliable Guard
Sheng Sanlang looked to the side again, and indeed, he
spotted Wei Han, still dressed in crimson, standing silently in the hall.
The waiter invited the two newcomers to a nearby table,
coincidentally next to Luo Sheng's table.
Meanwhile, the guard accompanying Wei Han also noticed Luo
Sheng and her group. In a hushed voice, he reminded Wei Han, "Master, it's
Miss Luo and her group." Wei Han raised his head and met the calm gaze of
the girl. He nodded slightly and then looked away.
"Here come the yangchun noodles," the waiter
announced, bringing two bowls of yangchun noodles and a plate of scallion
pancakes. Wei Han reached for a scallion pancake and began eating without much
ado.
Luo Sheng put down her chopsticks, her gaze fixed on Wei
Han, her brow furrowed in thought.
Sheng Sanlang, who had finished his meal and noticed something amiss, whispered to Luo Sheng, "Biaomei, let's pay the bill and leave."
"Just wait a moment," Luo Sheng said as she got up
and walked toward Wei Han.
"Biaomei—" Sheng Sanlang raised his voice
slightly, but Hongdou shot him a stern look. "Gongzi, don't disturb My
Miss' happy event."
Happy, happy event? Sheng Sanlang's face instantly darkened.
Was it the kind of happy moment he was thinking of?
"Miss Luo?" Wei Han put down his chopsticks and
looked at Luo Sheng expressionlessly. The gaudy dagger was still in his arms,
constantly reminding him of his previous blunder in front of this young girl.
Because of this, he unnoticedly became a little more cautious when dealing with
her.
The guard sitting across from Wei Han glanced at Luo Sheng
and then at his Master. Quietly, he picked up his bowl and left the table. Wei
Han's initially expressionless handsome face darkened. Ever since meeting Miss
Luo for the first time on the streets of the Capital, this bastard, Shiyan, had
become increasingly unreliable.
Luo Sheng sat down generously on Wei Han's opposite side and
began the conversation, "I wonder if Wangye still remembers our previous
agreement?"
Wei Han raised an eyebrow, "My memory isn't that bad.
If Miss Luo has something you need me to do, just say it."
Luo Sheng smiled slightly: "We've encountered bandits
multiple times on the road, so I would like to ask Wangye to escort us to the
Capital." Wei Han had appeared in the nick of time. With his martial arts
skills, he would be far more reliable than a group of unfamiliar escorts.
Wei Han was silent for a while. The journey to the Capital
from their current location would take at least five or six days. Was she
asking him to be their guard for that long?
As a Qinwang, he didn't mind acting as a young girl's guard,
but the girl in front of him was no ordinary girl. She's got a history! Wei Han
didn't want to have his belt to be taken off by the girl for the second time.
Before he could respond, the young girl's cold voice
sounded, "Forget it. If Wangye finds my request too burdensome, Wangye
could just convert that dagger into silver and give it to me."
Wei Han clenched his fists and maintained a calm smile,
"Since Miss Luo believes your request is a fair exchange for my promise, I
am more than willing to do it." If he had money, he wouldn't have made
that promise.
The feeling of being controlled by others was unpleasant,
but Wei Han could only maintain his smile. He secretly vowed to carry at least
10,000 taels of silver notes with him whenever he went out in the future.
Luo Sheng got up and slightly bent her knees, saying,
"Then, thank you for your care in the coming days. Please enjoy your meal,
Wangye. We'll pack up first."
After Luo Sheng and the others left the hall, the guard, Shi
Yan, approached Wei Han with his bowl and asked, "Master, are you really
going to escort Miss Luo back to the Capital?"
"Otherwise?" Wei Han asked blankly.
Shiyan said admiringly: "No, no, I was just
asking."
Master received a love token from his beloved and got the
opportunity to be with her day and night, all without spending any money. Tsk
tsk, is there any man more capable than his Master? As for the sweetheart being
Miss Luo—ahem, Master's poor judgment is another matter not to be confused with
the other.
