Chapter 49-2: I Am Different
With the tension somewhat diffused, Luo Sheng decided to
refocus the conversation on more pressing matters. "Furthermore, rather than
wasting time arguing with me, shouldn't we prioritize finding ways to wake
Father up?"
Luo Yue bit her lips and muttered: "That's easy for you
to say. Numerous imperial doctors have examined Father. If there was a way to
wake him up, wouldn't it have happened by now?" Her voice was barely
audible. Obviously, she didn't dare to confront Luo Sheng for now.
Observing the young girl's submissive stance, Luo Sheng,
being a kind person, didn't plan to press her further. Instead, she turned to
Yundong with a serious expression. "Have all the imperial doctors been
unable to help?" she inquired.
Yundong nodded gravely.
At that moment, the door swung open, and two individuals
entered one after the other. Leading the way was a handsome young man, followed
closely by an elderly man with white hair carrying a medicine box.
"How's Godfather?" The young man inquired,
seemingly noticing Luo Sheng only after speaking, causing him to slow his pace
in surprise. "Sanmei, why are you here?"
"Call me Luo Sheng or Sanguniang," Luo Sheng
replied, not intending to answer his question.
Yundong interjected, "Sanguniang rushed back home to
see Godfather. It's my fault for not informing you, Dage."
Now fully aware of the newcomers' identities, Luo Sheng
recognized the young man as Pingli, the first foster son of Luo Commander.
Unlike the other adoptive sons stationed in various places, Pingli had been
residing in the Capital under the direct order of Commander Luo, which shows
how much Commander Luo values him.
Pingli displayed his way with words as he sighed upon
hearing Yundong's explanation. "It's not your fault, Wudi. Everything was
in chaos when Godfather collapsed," he reassured. "Imperial Doctor
Wang, please examine my Godfather."
Imperial Doctor Wang stepped forward to examine Luo
Commander's condition. Pingli and Yundong anxiously asked in unison, "How
is he?"
Imperial Doctor Wang stroked his beard and shook his head.
"Commander still shows no signs of waking up. I'm afraid he won't last for
two more days..."
The room fell silent, and a heavy atmosphere hung in the
air.
"I'll see Imperial Doctor Wang out," Pingli
offered
But before he could leave, Luo Sheng interjected, "Wait
a moment."
All eyes turned to her.
Approaching Imperial Doctor Wang calmly, Luo Sheng inquired,
"Can you tell me why my Father has been unable to wake up?"
Having discussed the matter with all the imperial doctors,
Imperial Doctor Wang cupped his hands and explained, "It's possible that
Commander sustained serious injuries at that time, and his body fell into a
special comatose state to protect itself. However, this is just our
speculation, as many diseases can be complex and unpredictable."
"That is to say, there is no cure, and no one can treat
my Father's current condition?" Luo Sheng's mood sank.
If Commander Luo couldn't be saved, and she lost her
honorable status as the daughter of the Jinlin Guards Commander, she still
wouldn't give up seeking vengeance for Zhennan Wang Palace. However, this would
undoubtedly lead her onto a more arduous path of revenge.
In the worst-case scenario, once she loses Commander Luo's
protection, she might be at risk of becoming a trafficked slave. In such a dire
situation, she would have to find a way to escape from this predicament and
flee the Capital.
Such a detour was something she never wanted to encounter.
As these thoughts weighed on her, Luo Sheng suddenly
remembered someone: Divine Doctor Li! He definitely could save Commander Luo!
However, her excitement soon waned as she realized that Divine Doctor Li might
not even be alive after twelve years. Even if he were alive, finding the
reclusive old man would be arduous, and Commander Luo's condition couldn't
wait.
