Chapter 55-1: Please Come In
The gatekeeper boy stood before Luo Sheng and her sisters
with a frigid expression, his hand extended as a barrier, "Ladies, I must
request that you stop."
Luo Sheng remained calm, void of any hint of anger.
"And why is that?" she inquired calmly.
The gatekeeper boy motioned toward the number plate in Luo Sheng's
hand, a mocking smile curling on his lips, "I noticed something earlier.
The number plate in Miss' possession was obtained by someone else."
"And?" inquired Luo Sheng.
"And thus, Miss is not allowed to enter. The number
plate was not obtained from me," the gatekeeper boy resolutely declared.
Luo Yue glared at the gatekeeper boy, "You are being a
bully!" Her voice was sweet and clear at just fourteen or fifteen years
old. Even her scolding failed to intimidate anyone.
The gatekeeper boy retorted fearlessly, "I'm but a
gatekeeper. Dare not bully Miss. I merely abide by Divine Doctor's rules.
Please don't make things difficult for a lowly gatekeeper like me."
"You—" Luo Yue was fuming with anger, her lips
quivering, yet she struggled to find a retort. With so many onlookers around,
continuing to argue would only make the Luo Family appear to be exploiting
their power to oppress others.
The young girl's eyes welled up with tears as she sensed the
sneers from the onlookers behind her.
"Stand behind me," a clear, icy voice cut in.
Luo Yue turned her head and saw a face with a cold
expression.
"Third Sister—" Luo Yue instinctively called out,
the term "Third Sister" rolling smoothly off her tongue.
Luo Sheng didn't rush to dispute with the gatekeeper.
Frowning, she directed her words to Luo Yue, "Speak less if you are
stupid."
Luo Yue's face flushed crimson, yet she held her tongue this
time. As she witnessed Luo Sheng's gaze on the gatekeeper boy, inexplicable
anticipation stirred within her. Since her return from Jinsha, Luo Sheng had
become eloquent and fierce. This annoying gatekeeper boy surely wouldn't stand
a chance against her!
Meeting Luo Sheng's steady gaze, the gatekeeper's wariness
surged, "Ladies, please return. Do not hinder those here from seeking
medical treatment," he urged.
This Miss is far more audacious than the previous one. She
even had the nerve to ask for a queue number plate from Kaiyang Wang. Despite
his youth, the gatekeeper boy could discern those who were troublesome to deal
with. After all, guarding the entrance to the Divine Doctor's residence was no
easy task; he had encountered all sorts of people.
Luo Sheng looked calmly at the gatekeeper boy until he
averted his gaze. She then remarked, "Did you indeed witness that the
number plate in my possession was obtained from another person?"
"You got it from Kaiyang Wang. Everyone present can
attest to that," the gatekeeper boy thought that Luo Sheng would deny that
she had requested the number plate from Wei Han. Contempt laced his eyes. While
this Miss was bold, she was not smart. To deny something done in plain sight of
the public is just foolish.
"Yes, I can vouch for it," Zhu Hanshuang said
coldly. She shouldn't have made such a conspicuous move, but Luo Sheng's
audacious behavior of getting close to Kaiyang Wang right before her was
absolutely intolerable. She wasn't rubbing salt in the wound; she was
eliminating harm for the people! With this thought, Zhu Hanshuang unconsciously
straightened her back.
Luo Sheng didn't spare her a glance. Instead, she raised the
corners of her lips at the gatekeeper boy, who appeared unfazed by authority
and nobility. "Has Divine Doctor set a rule that the thirty number plates
issued each day are meant solely for the recipients and cannot be transferred
to others?"
The gatekeeper boy directed his full attention to the
concept of exclusivity she mentioned. After a moment's hesitation, he nodded,
"Yes!" If he insisted on saying so, what could she do?
Nonetheless, one fact remained clear, Divine Doctor hates
the Luo Family. Even the Emperor showed respect to Divine Doctor. With Divine
Doctor as his backing, he was not afraid of anything.
"Are you sure?" Luo Sheng persisted.
"Absolutely," retorted the gatekeeper boy
impatiently.
