To Hold One's Joy Chapter 55-2

 Chapter 55-2: Please Come In

The gatekeeper boy's expression changed, and he faltered immediately. At the time, he had merely handed out the number plate to Kaiyang Wang; how could he have paid attention to the number on the plate? After all, the claim that the number was meant solely for the recipient was a pretext he used to deter the Luo Family, not an actual rule.

"You can't recall the number on Kaiyang Wang's plate; what about Miss Zhu's?" asked Luo Sheng.

"It's—" the gatekeeper stammered, his anxiety evident as beads of sweat formed on his forehead.

Zhu Hanshuang glanced briefly at her number plate and said, "It's number 18."

The gatekeeper boy heaved a sigh of relief, "Yes, it's number 18!"

"You clearly have no idea—" Luo Yue couldn't resist interjecting again.

This time Luo Sheng didn't have to say anything; Luo Qing stopped Luo Yue and whispered, "Fourth Sister, let's listen to Third Sister." They had no choice; they were not good at arguing with others.

Luo Sheng seemed unperturbed by this blatant attempt at cheating and carried on, "So, Kaiyang Wang's number is—"

"Number 19!" the gatekeeper boy blurted out.

He clearly remembered that Miss Zhu and Kaiyang Wang had arrived in succession. Given that Miss Zhu's number plate was 18, it logically followed that Kaiyang Wang's number would be 19.

Luo Sheng applauded, "Your answer is correct."

The gatekeeper boy found himself momentarily bewildered. Why was Miss Luo taking his side?

While pondering this, he saw the composed young girl suddenly pull a long whip from her waist and crack it against the ground. The sharp sound of the whip's impact immediately drew the attention of the onlookers. Whether they were mere spectators or those with number plates in hand, they all paused in their tracks.

The gatekeeper boy's face turned pale as he sternly asked, "Do you intend to resort to violence in front of Divine Doctor?"

Luo Sheng's expression turned cold, "Divine Doctor issues thirty number plates a day. We arrived merely one step behind Kaiyang Wang. Hence, I must inquire: if Kaiyang Wang's number is 19, why did you claim all the plates had been distributed when it was our turn? Did you, the gatekeeper, deliberately make things difficult for us?"

The gatekeeper boy hurriedly defended himself, "I did not—"

"You didn't? Then why did you withhold the remaining number plates from us? Why did you fabricate excuses about the number plates being non-transferable? If, indeed, the number plates couldn't be passed to other people, why didn't you memorize who was assigned which number? If you didn't memorize the recipients, how can the rule that the number plate is exclusively for the recipient be upheld?"

The young girl spoke quickly and clearly, overwhelming the gatekeeper boy, who found himself without words to counter her points.

Luo Sheng took a step forward with the long whip in her hand and spoke with greater severity, "Tell me, is it because the rules established by Divine Doctor can be changed at will, or are you intentionally obstructing us?"

The gatekeeper's expression changed drastically, "The rules set by the Divine Doctor, of course, cannot be changed!"

The majority of those seeking medical treatment were either wealthy or noble. Initially, it was a challenge to get this group of people to adhere to the rules. However, after so much hardship, everyone now complied willingly. There was no room for rumors that the rules could be changed at will.

If such were the case, then these rules would lose their legitimacy. If the Divine Doctor discovered that he had violated the established rules, he would undoubtedly be kicked out! Panic surged through the gatekeeper.

Luo Sheng flicked the whip nonchalantly like a young girl waving a handkerchief. Her tone remained calm as she stated, "My sisters and I hold filial piety, sincerely seeking medical treatment for our father. Since the rules set by Divine Doctor are unalterable, then please, before everyone, state what exactly the rules are?"

The gatekeeper's face turned ashen, and his lips trembled. Ultimately, he lowered his head and stepped aside, clearing the path. "It was a mistake on my part. Miss, please come in."

THOJ Chapter 1

TO HOLD'S ONE JOY  Chapter 1: Devil Incarnate Luo Sheng gazed at the engraved silver incense ball beneath the emerald green curtain. Her eyes, which before had been full of vigor, seemed a little dull now, and the chattering of the little maid in her ears became louder as a result. "Miss, isn't it just a Su Er Gongzi [1] ? If you like him, you could capture him directly, but hanging yourself for him is not worth it, hu hu hu..." Luo Sheng shifted her gaze to the little maid who was crying at the bedside. This little maid's name is Hongdou (red bean), and she can speak and cry at the same time. It's been three days since she heard Hongdou's chatters, and she's gained a general understanding of her situation. Her present body, Luo Sheng, is the daughter of the powerful Commander Luo, the chief commander of Jinlin Guards. She was sent to her maternal ancestral home in Jinsha County, the Sheng family's mansion, where she currently resides, after getti

Chapter 64: Kaiyang Wang's Greetings Luo Sheng returned to the Luo Mansion and went straight to her room, never stepping outside again. Si Nan had been freed, but it left her feeling burdened. After all, her heart wasn't made of iron. Pingli was furious upon learning that Luo Sheng had killed Si Nan. "Didn't Fifth Brother accompany Third Miss? Why did you allow her to lay her hands on the criminal?" he demanded of Yundong. "Third Miss said that she wanted to speak privately with Si Nan... I'm sorry, Eldest Brother, I didn't anticipate that Third Miss would take such action," Yundong apologized, though his heart harbored no remorse. The man was killed in Jinlin Guards Prison, so the news would remain suppressed unless Pingli chose to disclose it. Pingli might have considered leaking the information if Godfather had not regained consciousness. However, now that Godfather was awake, he didn't think Pingli dared to do so. Pingli obviously also un

Chapter 57-1: Divine Doctor's Visit The echo of footsteps resonated as an elderly man emerged from behind the screen, causing Luo Sheng's eyelashes to quiver. In comparison to a decade ago, Divine Doctor Li had scarcely changed. His hair remained silver without a hint of other colors, and his eyes shone with more vitality than those of young people. Time seems to have forgotten this old man, leaving his unaltered appearance to evoke a sense of familiarity in Luo Sheng. However, the same couldn't be said for Divine Doctor Li. He stared at the unfamiliar young girl before him with a grim expression and addressed her sternly, "Where's the Yangyuan Pill?" Luo Sheng handed him a small box. Upon opening it and seeing the pills inside, Divine Doctor Li's eyes shrank. He brought the box close to his nose, took a sniff, and his expression soured. "Where did you get this pill?" he asked. Luo Sheng blinked. Her bright eyes showed surprise. "Yo
