Chapter 55-2: Please Come In
The gatekeeper boy's expression changed, and he faltered
immediately. At the time, he had merely handed out the number plate to Kaiyang
Wang; how could he have paid attention to the number on the plate? After all,
the claim that the number was meant solely for the recipient was a pretext he
used to deter the Luo Family, not an actual rule.
"You can't recall the number on Kaiyang Wang's plate;
what about Miss Zhu's?" asked Luo Sheng.
"It's—" the gatekeeper stammered, his anxiety
evident as beads of sweat formed on his forehead.
Zhu Hanshuang glanced briefly at her number plate and said,
"It's number 18."
The gatekeeper boy heaved a sigh of relief, "Yes, it's
number 18!"
"You clearly have no idea—" Luo Yue couldn't
resist interjecting again.
This time Luo Sheng didn't have to say anything; Luo Qing
stopped Luo Yue and whispered, "Fourth Sister, let's listen to Third
Sister." They had no choice; they were not good at arguing with others.
Luo Sheng seemed unperturbed by this blatant attempt at
cheating and carried on, "So, Kaiyang Wang's number is—"
"Number 19!" the gatekeeper boy blurted out.
He clearly remembered that Miss Zhu and Kaiyang Wang had
arrived in succession. Given that Miss Zhu's number plate was 18, it logically
followed that Kaiyang Wang's number would be 19.
Luo Sheng applauded, "Your answer is correct."
The gatekeeper boy found himself momentarily bewildered. Why
was Miss Luo taking his side?
While pondering this, he saw the composed young girl
suddenly pull a long whip from her waist and crack it against the ground. The
sharp sound of the whip's impact immediately drew the attention of the
onlookers. Whether they were mere spectators or those with number plates in
hand, they all paused in their tracks.
The gatekeeper boy's face turned pale as he sternly asked,
"Do you intend to resort to violence in front of Divine Doctor?"
Luo Sheng's expression turned cold, "Divine Doctor
issues thirty number plates a day. We arrived merely one step behind Kaiyang
Wang. Hence, I must inquire: if Kaiyang Wang's number is 19, why did you claim
all the plates had been distributed when it was our turn? Did you, the
gatekeeper, deliberately make things difficult for us?"
The gatekeeper boy hurriedly defended himself, "I did
not—"
"You didn't? Then why did you withhold the remaining
number plates from us? Why did you fabricate excuses about the number plates
being non-transferable? If, indeed, the number plates couldn't be passed to
other people, why didn't you memorize who was assigned which number? If you
didn't memorize the recipients, how can the rule that the number plate is
exclusively for the recipient be upheld?"
The young girl spoke quickly and clearly, overwhelming the
gatekeeper boy, who found himself without words to counter her points.
Luo Sheng took a step forward with the long whip in her hand
and spoke with greater severity, "Tell me, is it because the rules
established by Divine Doctor can be changed at will, or are you intentionally
obstructing us?"
The gatekeeper's expression changed drastically, "The
rules set by the Divine Doctor, of course, cannot be changed!"
The majority of those seeking medical treatment were either
wealthy or noble. Initially, it was a challenge to get this group of people to
adhere to the rules. However, after so much hardship, everyone now complied
willingly. There was no room for rumors that the rules could be changed at
will.
If such were the case, then these rules would lose their
legitimacy. If the Divine Doctor discovered that he had violated the
established rules, he would undoubtedly be kicked out! Panic surged through the
gatekeeper.
Luo Sheng flicked the whip nonchalantly like a young girl
waving a handkerchief. Her tone remained calm as she stated, "My sisters
and I hold filial piety, sincerely seeking medical treatment for our father.
Since the rules set by Divine Doctor are unalterable, then please, before
everyone, state what exactly the rules are?"
