To Hold One's Joy Chapter 60-1

 Chapter 60-1: Father-Daughter Bond

"Sheng'er, is he your new male companion?" Commander Luo blurted out without thinking, his voice hoarse and deep.

Sheng Sanlang was about to excitedly call him "Gufu", but Commander Luo's question caught him off guard. The word remained stuck in his throat, and doubts began to rise in his mind. Gufu's concubines had previously speculated that he might be Biaomei's new male companion. Now, Gufu himself had the same speculation. Could it be that others found him far more handsome than he had ever realized?

Luo Sheng glanced at Sheng Sanlang and introduced him in a flat tone: "This is Third Biaoge."

Sheng Sanlang smiled, saying, "Gufu, I am Sheng Sanlang."

"Sanlang of the Sheng Family?" Commander Luo's foggy mind gradually cleared, and he said, "I never expected you to have grown up so much. The last time I saw you, you were still a child."

"That's because Gufu hasn't visited Jinsha in quite some time," Sheng Sanlang responded.

"Indeed," Commander Luo was about to drift into his memories when he caught a glimpse of Luo Sheng from the corner of his eye. His daughter stood beside the bedside, tall and elegant like a poplar, radiating a calmness and tranquility he had never witnessed before.

Commander Luo snapped back to reality and said, "Sheng'er, shouldn't you be at the Sheng Mansion?"

As soon as these words escaped his lips, the room fell into an awkward silence, with all eyes fixed on Luo Sheng.

All the concubines: Ah, Miss did sneak back! See, it's wise not to offend Miss; not even Master can rein her in...

Luo Yue had initially felt a glimmer of satisfaction, anticipating that Luo Sheng would likely face consequences for her actions. Father has awakened. Let's see how Third Sister explains her return to the Capital.

Yet, the young girl hesitated; a different thought occurred to her. If Third Sister hadn't returned, Father might still be unconscious, or worse, he might never wake up. The helplessness of witnessing Father in that state, with their foster brothers unable to do anything, that feeling was suffocating and utterly despairing.

In retrospect, it was fortunate that Third Sister had managed to sneak back. Luo Yue suddenly recalled the image of Luo Sheng confidently wielding the whip in front of the gatekeeper boy. Truth be told, Third Sister was a bit heroic when she did that. Luo Yue found herself tangled in conflicting emotions.

Hmph, in any case, she won't plead for her. At most, when Third Sister is punished and made to kneel in the ancestral hall, she'll send some fruits over for her.

Sheng Sanlang was consumed by worry. Would Gufu punish Biaomei? After all, Biaomei had endured an arduous journey to come back home. Sheng Sanlang couldn't help but think of the beggar pork knuckles, saozi noodles, gourd chicken... Sob, sob. After indulging in these dishes, eating anything else would be nearly impossible, and he couldn't fathom how Biaomei had managed to endure it.

"I was originally at the Sheng Mansion, but now I'm back," Luo Sheng replied without a change in her expression.

Commander Luo's expression darkened. "You sneaked back?" This daughter of his was so defiant, and she had caused him so much worry! Commander Luo felt a rush of anxiety, and his head throbbed.

Under the watchful eyes of everyone, the usually calm and composed Miss Luo suddenly raised her sleeves to conceal her face. Her voice trembled as she spoke, "A month ago, I suddenly dreamed that something bad happened to Father. The dream felt so vivid when I woke up as if it were a reality. I couldn't find any peace of mind, so I returned. Little did I know that something had indeed happened to Father..."

Luo Sheng shed tears for a while and slowly lowered her sleeves. She looked at Commander Luo with reddened eyes and spoke softly, "I didn't sneak back. It's as if the heavens themselves couldn't bear to witness something happen to Father while I didn't know it. I was simply compelled to return."

Commander Luo's eyes welled up instantly, and his voice quivered as he said, "This is the unbreakable bond between a father and daughter. My daughter has endured so much."

Everyone: "..."

"You've just woken up, and your body is still weak. Let's rest for now," Luo Sheng said.

Commander Luo really couldn't endure any longer. He had been in a coma for over a month, and the dagger wound had not completely healed. His body was uncomfortable, and merely speaking a few words left him gasping for breath.

"Pingli," he called.

"This son is here."

"Go to the Imperial Palace on my behalf and inform the Emperor of my awakening."

"Yes, Godfather."

Commander Luo's gaze slowly swept over his daughters and foster sons. He then closed his eyes and drifted into sleep. Two concubines remained to attend to him while the others quietly left the room.

THOJ Chapter 1

TO HOLD'S ONE JOY  Chapter 1: Devil Incarnate Luo Sheng gazed at the engraved silver incense ball beneath the emerald green curtain. Her eyes, which before had been full of vigor, seemed a little dull now, and the chattering of the little maid in her ears became louder as a result. "Miss, isn't it just a Su Er Gongzi [1] ? If you like him, you could capture him directly, but hanging yourself for him is not worth it, hu hu hu..." Luo Sheng shifted her gaze to the little maid who was crying at the bedside. This little maid's name is Hongdou (red bean), and she can speak and cry at the same time. It's been three days since she heard Hongdou's chatters, and she's gained a general understanding of her situation. Her present body, Luo Sheng, is the daughter of the powerful Commander Luo, the chief commander of Jinlin Guards. She was sent to her maternal ancestral home in Jinsha County, the Sheng family's mansion, where she currently resides, after getti

Chapter 64: Kaiyang Wang's Greetings Luo Sheng returned to the Luo Mansion and went straight to her room, never stepping outside again. Si Nan had been freed, but it left her feeling burdened. After all, her heart wasn't made of iron. Pingli was furious upon learning that Luo Sheng had killed Si Nan. "Didn't Fifth Brother accompany Third Miss? Why did you allow her to lay her hands on the criminal?" he demanded of Yundong. "Third Miss said that she wanted to speak privately with Si Nan... I'm sorry, Eldest Brother, I didn't anticipate that Third Miss would take such action," Yundong apologized, though his heart harbored no remorse. The man was killed in Jinlin Guards Prison, so the news would remain suppressed unless Pingli chose to disclose it. Pingli might have considered leaking the information if Godfather had not regained consciousness. However, now that Godfather was awake, he didn't think Pingli dared to do so. Pingli obviously also un

Chapter 57-1: Divine Doctor's Visit The echo of footsteps resonated as an elderly man emerged from behind the screen, causing Luo Sheng's eyelashes to quiver. In comparison to a decade ago, Divine Doctor Li had scarcely changed. His hair remained silver without a hint of other colors, and his eyes shone with more vitality than those of young people. Time seems to have forgotten this old man, leaving his unaltered appearance to evoke a sense of familiarity in Luo Sheng. However, the same couldn't be said for Divine Doctor Li. He stared at the unfamiliar young girl before him with a grim expression and addressed her sternly, "Where's the Yangyuan Pill?" Luo Sheng handed him a small box. Upon opening it and seeing the pills inside, Divine Doctor Li's eyes shrank. He brought the box close to his nose, took a sniff, and his expression soured. "Where did you get this pill?" he asked. Luo Sheng blinked. Her bright eyes showed surprise. "Yo
